In the Beginning
The story of Rocky Mountain Hardware unfolded over three decades ago in a successful showroom owned by Mark and Patsy Nickum. Working closely with architects, designers and builders in Sun Valley, Idaho, they furnished high-end doors, windows and door hardware for upscale, custom-built homes.
Our hardware is expertly crafted in America using only the finest art-grade bronze and precision-quality mechanisms that stand up to the test of time. In fact, all products are backed by a lifetime guarantee. Each piece is individually cast for one-of-a-kind character, and then given a hand-applied patina that grows richer and more lustrous in response to the environment.
Today, Rocky Mountain Hardware continues its family tradition with their son Christian at the helm since 2003. Their unwavering commitment to high-quality, custom bronze pieces is unparalleled. The creation of that next sculptural work of art is already in the works. As for the future? They can't wait for the next request.

La Cornue is a very different French company. We have been enjoying manufacturing exceptional products since 1908, sharing pleasure, refinement and conviviality with the world, federating a unique lifestyle: the French art de vivre.
Albert Dupuy was passionate about cooking and in 1908, he filed a patent for the first vaulted gas oven which would become the masterpiece of La Cornue kitchen ranges.
Through his own passion, his son André Dupuy decided fifty years ago that La Cornue would focus solely on producing excellence and creating the most beautiful ranges in the world. And so, the first superlative range appeared in 1964: the Château La Cornue.
Every Château range created today is an original, individually numbered by the craftsman who created it. It is manufactured as a single unit, to order, assembled by one craftsman. This person will take as long he must to make it unique.
In 2010 and in response to increasingly specific demands for excellence, founder’s grandson, Xavier Dupuy, has provided La Cornue’s Culinary Architecture service, the creation of a complete and bespoke kitchen around La Cornue’s ranges and products. Unique in the world, this service brings together the grand instrument and also the furniture and fittings, the ventilation, refrigerators, wine cellars and utensils…the dream of every exacting amateur cook.
The desire for excellence will always drive connoisseurs and enthusiasts forward. The quality of our work is the cornerstone of our excellent reputation. And success is on the cards: we now have a presence in forty countries through an international network of over seventy galleries.

Glass making in Murano has existed for many centuries - some of the many glass making factories from the Venetian Island have actually had their names above some kind of production site for three hundred years and more. Brands like Seguso claim to go back as glassmaking name to the 1600s - let's pause to digest that! how incredible and so beautiful it must be to come from this little Island? The name Murano is synonymous with dazzling fancy-glass creations achieved through closely guarded methods that have been refined to perfection over 600 years.
On an Island where for centuries art has risen from the limited soil into the colourful architecture and finally found it's way into some of the most treasured objects created by humankind it is almost impossible to decide which of the many glassmakers to profile in DesignBuzz.
Having explored the heavyweights of Murano such as Seguso, La Murrina, Formia, Barovier, et al. it became clear that deciding based on history would be nigh-impossible given that all have incredible stories passed down through the generations. In the end we simply decided to make our choice based on whose products we felt were sufficiently future led.
Venini - A company with a mere 90 or so years of operation is ironically one of the late arrivals on the Murano scene - nearly a centenary would be for some brands a major selling point but on Murano 90 year is nothing to brag about. Age is relative right? I guess if your neighbour is 300 years old then 90 is basically a teenager.
Well the 'teenage' glass making house of Murano knows how to create glass that interacts with us in the gentlest of manners whilst retaining the deep colour and channelled drama that is expected of works from this part of the world. The strategy of creating delicate works of indescribably beauty that make love to our desires was a path set by it's founder Paulo Venini (1895 – 1959) - an eminent 20th Century designer who would prove to be an important figure in Murano's glass making history because of key techniques and adaptations that he introduced not to mention many internationally acclaimed works.
The glass creations from Venini come with a sense of lightness and freedom - it is as though they are not burdened by the imposing expectations and creative traditions that come with the towering name that is Murano. They are not hanging around in centuries past but instead they are firmly rooted in the trends of tomorrow. Venini's products challenge perspectives and expectations with a distinct subtlety leading to products that are elegant, usable and just simply sexy.
