Born in Prague, Czech Republic in 1994. Between 2009–2013 studied ceramics and porcelain at the College and High art school of Vaclav Hollar. Since 2013 has been studying in the Studio of glass at the Academy of Art Architecture & Design in Prague.
"For me, glass represents basic material as well as the immense source of inspiration. I usually combine it with other materials - most frequently with wood. My intent is to bring harmony between those materials. My aim is to design such products that would inspire other people, evoke their emotions and bring joy into their lives. It is essential for me that people use my designs spontaneously and they like looking at them again and again."

Harald Kny is the third generation managing the family business located in Ramingdorf, Lower Austria. The company Kny Design, founded in 1956, specializes in providing innovative solutions for lighting design – from “classic chandeliers“ to glass facades and light sculptures made of metal.
The client basis is diverse: the Austrian specialist provider develops innovative lighting solutions for public buildings, churches, mosques and conference centers as well as for casinos, ships or hotels. “However, there is one thing that has remained unchanged: our focus on core competencies,” says CEO Harald Kny. The core competencies are: lighting design, glass design and metal construction.
We are exclusively bound to the Austrian production site and create unique niche products in an unprecedented quality.
Our highest goal is to satisfy our clients, suppliers and employees whereupon profit maximization is only second in rank.
For Harald Kny and his 50 employees “sustainable business management” and “focus on people” means careful use of resources and environmentally friendly production, social responsibility and economic success. “And without our highly skilled and qualified employees, the massive technological advances of recent years would not have been possible.”
A FAMILY BUSINESS WITH TRADITION
Bruno Kny, born 1903 in Steinschoenau, Sudetenland started his career in his homecountry as the manager of the largest chandelier company in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. After fleeing from Sudetenland he came to Upper Austria and was able to gain a foothold here very soon. At first he was employed in a company as the head of the chandelier production department. Later he was appointed plant manager.
In 1956, Bruno Kny, together with his son Gerold Kny, founded the company Kny & Son in Ramingdorf. Currently, the company in third generation, has Harald Kny at the helm, grandson of the founder. He was appointed managing director in 1989.
At the beginning the focus was laying on living room lighting, particularly on Maria-Theresia chandeliers.
Today the program has a much wider spectrum. Now we offer master plans for mansions, hotels, restaurants, ships and public buildings. Our production and supply capabilities include high quality furniture, decorative lighting for indoor and outdoor use and ornate metal and glass for interior and exterior architecture.

SkLOSkLO is dedicated to the idea of Craft, to the importance of the handmade object, to materials and workmanship of the highest quality.
SkLO produces two collections: SkLO:LIT is lighting designed to feature hand blown glass elements, SkLO:OBJECT is hand blown glass accessories. We also produce custom and one-of-a-kind commissioned works through our SkLO:PROJECT division.
As designers, our philosophy is rooted in materiality and process. We believe in revealing the underlying nature of the materials and the way things are made. Our designs celebrate the nature of the handmade, the imperfect, the imprecise. It is this point of view that we bring to the great historic Craft tradition of Czech glassblowing. We strive for subtlety, restraint, and beauty.

Glass making in Murano has existed for many centuries - some of the many glass making factories from the Venetian Island have actually had their names above some kind of production site for three hundred years and more. Brands like Seguso claim to go back as glassmaking name to the 1600s - let's pause to digest that! how incredible and so beautiful it must be to come from this little Island? The name Murano is synonymous with dazzling fancy-glass creations achieved through closely guarded methods that have been refined to perfection over 600 years.
On an Island where for centuries art has risen from the limited soil into the colourful architecture and finally found it's way into some of the most treasured objects created by humankind it is almost impossible to decide which of the many glassmakers to profile in DesignBuzz.
Having explored the heavyweights of Murano such as Seguso, La Murrina, Formia, Barovier, et al. it became clear that deciding based on history would be nigh-impossible given that all have incredible stories passed down through the generations. In the end we simply decided to make our choice based on whose products we felt were sufficiently future led.
Venini - A company with a mere 90 or so years of operation is ironically one of the late arrivals on the Murano scene - nearly a centenary would be for some brands a major selling point but on Murano 90 year is nothing to brag about. Age is relative right? I guess if your neighbour is 300 years old then 90 is basically a teenager.
Well the 'teenage' glass making house of Murano knows how to create glass that interacts with us in the gentlest of manners whilst retaining the deep colour and channelled drama that is expected of works from this part of the world. The strategy of creating delicate works of indescribably beauty that make love to our desires was a path set by it's founder Paulo Venini (1895 – 1959) - an eminent 20th Century designer who would prove to be an important figure in Murano's glass making history because of key techniques and adaptations that he introduced not to mention many internationally acclaimed works.
The glass creations from Venini come with a sense of lightness and freedom - it is as though they are not burdened by the imposing expectations and creative traditions that come with the towering name that is Murano. They are not hanging around in centuries past but instead they are firmly rooted in the trends of tomorrow. Venini's products challenge perspectives and expectations with a distinct subtlety leading to products that are elegant, usable and just simply sexy.
